Collier School recently joined the ranks of over 1/3 of schools in the United States to implement STAR Assessment software into both our high school and middle school. STAR (Standardized Test for the Assessment of Reading) Assessment is utilized in the onboarding process of new students at Collier as well as evaluating current students’ levels in math and reading.

“STAR Assessment allows Collier to place students exactly where they need to be,” explained Pablo Samuel, Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction. Once the student finishes the approximately 20-minute adaptive test, a learning plan is created to place him or her in the appropriate course and level. The report details their grade level as well as their percentile ranking nationally.

“It’s been a slow implementation. We started with just the math component last year and within the last month, started testing students on reading,” continued Mr. Samuel. Adding STAR Assessment to the Collier School toolbox ensures that our students are receiving the academic resources and instructions they need.
